MYSTERY PHOTO (14)
Hello everyone,
I think it is high time to give you the opportunity to find a new place again. This time it is very easy! However, you know why I'm doing this little game: my goal is to answer your questions in English of course. Good luck!
That's a great idea to give a quiz from time to time. Today I know the answer since I don't live too far from this place. It is the Cherhill horse. It is cut high into a very steep slope on Cherhill down, a little below Oldbury castle. It faces North West overlooking the A4 and the village of Cherhill. The horse was cut in 1780 by Dr Christopher Alsop and was well designed, as it is well proportioned when seen from the ground. The horse was scoured regularly and in 1935 a mixture of concrete and chalk was used. It was camouflaged during the war. It was last scoured in 1994. Also known as the Oldbury White Horse it is under the care of Cherhill parish council. Well if you need more photos or explanations, I'll be happy to get back to you. I often go there for a walk it is my favourite place to unwind.
Hope to see you there one day. Good luck with your future photos...

Yes, indeed. Thanks for all the details. It is absolutely impressive and odd. I still remember it after all those years. I'm sure a lot of people would want to stop by now.

Is that a horse on the hill?
Valerie
Yes it is !
Why this horse seems so white ?
Is it in stone ?

This white horse is in fact made of chalk. That's why it has got a white colour on some pictures.
Is it in the North of England?
Alain
It is in the south? Near Winchester?
Yes indeed. It is in the South not too far from Winchester
